Biden expected to address Chinese surveillance balloon, unidentified objects

President Joe Biden on Thursday will publicly address the suspected Chinese spy balloon and three unidentified aerial objects shot down this month by the U.S. military.

Biden also will direct White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to lead a team to determine how the United States will address unmanned, unidentified flying objects in the future, sources familiar with the matter told The Washington Post. 

The White House briefed Congress earlier this week on the four downed objects. After the briefing, at least three Republican senators urged the Biden administration to be transparent with the American public about the situation.

The administration said the leading explanation about three of the balloons is that were benign objects, but they cannot be sure because the remnants have not been recovered. The other balloon, the first takedown off the South Carolina coast, was a Chinese surveillance balloon.
