Biden to give former GOP Rep Liz Cheney, co-leader of House J6 panel, second-highest civilian award
Rep. Bennie Thompson, chairman of the Jan. 6 select committee, will also receive the Presidential Citizens Medal, according to the White House
President Biden on Thursday will present former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney, who was a member of the House Jan. 6 select committee with the Presidential Citizens Medal, which is the second highest civilian medal.
"Throughout two decades in public service, including as a Congresswoman for Wyoming and Vice Chair of the Committee on the January 6 attack, Liz Cheney has raised her voice—and reached across the aisle—to defend our Nation and the ideals we stand for: Freedom," read a White House news release about the awards. "Dignity. And decency. Her integrity and intrepidness remind us all what is possible if we work together."
Rep. Bennie Thompson, chairman of the Jan. 6 select committee, will also receive the Presidential Citizens Medal, according to the White House.
Individuals who have "performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens" receive the award.
“President Biden believes these Americans are bonded by their common decency and commitment to serving others,” the White House said in a statement about the recipients. “The country is better because of their dedication and sacrifice.”
