President Biden has brought two trusted advisers into the debt ceiling negotiations with congressional leaders in hopes of moving along stalled talks and reaching a deal before the country defaults on its debt.

Biden has named long-serving adviser Steve Ricchetti and Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young, according to Politico.

They will join Louisa Terrell, Biden's top legislative liaison.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, the Hill's chief negotiator, reportedly has wanted the change and has named his own top negotiator, Louisiana GOP Rep. Garret Graves, Politico also reports.

The sides have had three White House meetings, including one Tuesday that was joined by Vice President Kamala Harris and some of her staff.

Republicans essentially want spending cuts in exchange for raising the debt ceiling, a position Biden has so far rejected.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen says the ceiling must be raised by June 1 or else the U.S. will default on its debt, resulting in huge economic consequences.
