President Biden is against two congressional Republican-led measures – one that would reverse Washington, D.C., policing reform and the other that would ban biological males from playing on female sports teams if the programs receive federal funds – and would veto both proposals if they reach his desk, the White House announced Monday.

Biden "will not support congressional Republicans’ efforts to overturn commonsense police reforms such as: banning chokeholds; limiting use of force and deadly force; improving access to body-worn camera recordings; and requiring officer training on de-escalation and use of force," the White House Management and Budget Office said in an administration policy statement regarding the House resolution disapproving D.C.'s policing reform.

Georgia GOP Rep. Andrew Clyde introduced the resolution late last month with 19 Republican cosponsors, after Biden approved Congress' override of changes to the D.C. criminal code that would have cut maximum sentences and eliminated most mandatory sentencing.

Biden is also opposed to the "Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023," which Floria GOP Rep. Greg Steube introduced in February with 93 cosponsors.

The Management and Budget Office said the latter bill is "discriminatory" and "would deny access to sports for many families by establishing an absolute ban on transgender students – even those as young as elementary schooler – playing on a team consistent with their gender identity."

After the bill was proposed, the Biden administration earlier this month released proposed guidelines that would stop schools from issuing general bans on transgender athletes in sports.

The House Republican proposals may be presented on the floor as early as this week, Politico reported.
