Biden on pro-Palestinian demonstrations on college campuses: 'Violent protest is not protected'
"Dissent must never lead to disorder," Biden says. "Order must prevail."
President Biden on Thursday addressed the spreading of pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses.
"'Violent protest is not protected. Peaceful protest is," he said at the White House. "Dissent must never lead to disorder."
Biden mentioned how some colleges including Columbia University had to cancel in-person classes due to the protest activity. He said that "order must prevail."
He also said there is "no place" for hate speech or "antisemitism" of any kind.
"It's un-American," he said.
Biden was asked whether such protests have resulted in him rethinking his policy positions, which as of now is to continue to support Israel in its war against Palestinian-backed Hamas – the militant group that in October 2023 launched a terror attack on Israel.
However, he has publicly warned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the civilian death toll and other, related humanitarian issues and has urged him to end the conflict was swiftly as possible.
"No," he responded.
Biden was also asked if he is considering sending in the National Guard to handle the spreading protests.
"No," he said.
