President Joe Biden this week vowed to codify the repealed Roe v. Wade decision as federal statute if voters send just two more Democrats to the U.S. Senate, as Democrats seek to to galvanize their base amid dimming prospects in the the midterm elections.

"If you give me two more senators in the United States Senate, I promise you, I promise you, we'e going to codify Roe and once again make Roe the law of the land," Biden told an audience at the National Education Association in Washington on Friday.

Numerous states since Roe's repeal have moved to outlaw abortion partially or almost entirely. States were largely forbidden from doing so for the roughly 50 years that Roe was in place under the Supreme Court's ruling.

Biden at the event claimed that "the power to get things done is in the hands of the American people, especially the women out there."

"I don't think the MAGA Republicans have a clue about the power of American women," Biden said. "Let me tell you something: They're about to find out."
