DNC to pay only part of first lady's Paris-Delaware Trip for son's trial, remaining balance of $200K
The White House and the first lady's office did not respond to a request for comment so whether the difference can and will be paid by a private donor remains unclear.
Taxpayers will reportedly pay most of first lady Jill Biden's trip last week from Paris to Wilmington, Delaware, to attend Hunter Biden’s trial.
The first lady left June 6 and returned June 7 to resume her official duties during D-Day commemorations.
The government pays for U.S. officials flying on official business, but personal, unofficial travel must reimbursed.
According to the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, the cost of the one-way trip from the airport in Paris to the airport in Wilmington is about $111,500, which would put the roundtrip cost at $223,000.
The Democratic National Committee will reimburse the value of two first-class tickets for the two trips Biden made, according to a DNC spokesperson.
The math shows the DNC will pay $13,310 instead of the full $223,000, which has resulted in "suggestions" by news gathering organization that taxpayers will paid the difference of about $209,690.
The White House and the first lady's office did not respond to a request for comment by ABC News so whether they difference can and will be paid by a private donor remains unclear.
