Former VP Pence says Trump should 'rescind' Russian fuel deal immediately
“America should not be throwing a lifeline to Putin’s war machine,” Pence says
Former Vice President Mike Pence criticized President Donald Trump’s decision to ease sanctions on Russian fuel, urging him to reverse the deal amid Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
Trump announced an agreement for Russia to supply diesel to global markets, arguing that the additional supply could help ease high fuel prices.
“President Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Russian fuel amidst Putin’s ongoing and brutal attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine makes no sense and is a betrayal of the legacy and leadership of the late Senator Lindsey Graham,” Pence wrote in a post on X.
“America should not be throwing a lifeline to Putin’s war machine,” Pence added.
He called on Trump to “rescind this deal immediately.”
The administration has defended the decision, while critics said easing sanctions could provide Moscow with additional revenue during the war.
