Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday described the process of certifying the results of the 2024 election, which she lost to President-elect Trump, as a “sacred obligation” for Congress and the vice president.

Her comments were made in a video message released on Monday ahead of a joint session of Congress.

Harris, who will preside over the certification of the results, said the peaceful transfer of power is “one of the most fundamental principles” of U.S. democracy.

Harris said the peaceful transition of power is “what distinguishes us from monarchy or tyranny.”
