The White House confirmed this week that President Donald Trump will travel to New Jersey this weekend to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain.

The final match will take place on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The third place match will take place Saturday in Florida between England and France.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the travel plans Thursday, and the president is expected to hand the World Cup trophy to the winner alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

“His attendance will cap what has been the most-watched, most secure and most successful World Cup in American history,” Leavitt said. "This is a fitting conclusion to a tournament that showcased America’s ability to host the world on the grandest stage.”

Sunday's match will mark the end of the first World Cup to be hosted in the United States since 1994. Canada and Mexico also hosted World Cup matches this summer, including the first game of the tournament in June.

The game marks the first match Trump has attended this year, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the U.S. Men's National Team's opener against Paraguay on June 12. The U.S. was eliminated in the round of 16.
