Senior Counselor at Heritage Foundation says Biden is using foreign policy to cause GOP infighting
"I think it's been been terrible leadership," James Carafano said.
Senior Counselor to the President and E.W. Richardson Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, James Carafano, said that President Biden is using the wars in Ukraine and Israel to pit members of the GOP against one another.
"I think my one problem with the president's foreign policy from the beginning in Ukraine has really been to not have a bipartisan perspective on this," Carafano said on the "John Solomon Reports" podcast. "He's gone out of his way to pit Republicans against Republicans on this and really kind of burn through a lot of goodwill."
He went on to explain that the Supplemental Security packages that have been introduced contained a lot of items that the GOP didn't want, including aid for Ukraine and no funding for the U.S. southern border.
"We're getting an instant replay of this," said Carafano. "We're going to package Israeli aid and Ukrainian aid together again to make it more difficult for Republicans to have views on these things. And again, I'm sure there'll be other junk in there, which the president will do, and there won't be any Border Security money."
President Biden announced Wednesday night, in a primetime address to Americans, he plans to ask Capitol Hill to pass a measure to give over $105 billion to Israel and Ukraine.
"FDR during World War Two really tried to say 'what do we do need to keep Republicans and Democrats together to fight this war?'" stated Carafano. "Biden has done exactly the opposite. He's framed everything as 'how can I actually use this foreign policy to pit Republicans against Republicans?' So I think it's terrible leadership."
He stated that if a package that was introduced that only offered aid for Israel almost every Republican would vote for it.
