President Donald Trump on Friday plans to honor the 1980 U.S. Olympic men's hockey team.

Several members of the team are expected to attend the event at the White House, CBS News reported. The team is famous for its upset victory over the Soviet Union in what has since become known as the "Miracle on Ice."

"President Trump will honor the legendary Olympic men's ice hockey team whose 'Miracle on Ice' resulted in a historic and symbolic victory against the Soviet Union," a White House spokesperson said in a statement. "This triumph fueled a resurgence of national pride as Americans across the country watched Team USA unexpectedly take home the Gold Medal."

The win became a symbolic Cold War cultural victory for the United States.
