Trump to meet Biden at White House to discuss presidential transition of powers
Trump, who won the presidential election in the early hours of Wednesday morning, is expected to announce the personnel who will join him in the White House in the coming days.
President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday accepted an invitation to the White House in order to begin the process of transitioning the presidential powers from President Joe Biden to Trump.
Trump, who won the presidential election in the early hours of Wednesday morning, is expected to announce the personnel who will join him in the White House in the "days and weeks ahead," per the Associated Press.
Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said the former president is looking forward to meeting with Biden. White House officials also encouraged Trump to start signing the federal agreements that are necessary to begin processing security clearances for potential Trump administration national security appointees.
“President Trump looks forward to the meeting, which will take place shortly, and very much appreciated the call,” Cheung said in a statement.
The presidential transition will be overseen by team co-chairs Howard Lutnick and Linda McMahon, and White House chief of staff Jeff Zients.
“As he chooses the best people to join his team and best policies to pursue, his transition team will ensure the implementation of President Trump’s common sense agenda starting on Day 1,” Lutnick and McMahon said in a joint statement.
Biden congratulated Trump on his victory in a phone call earlier Wednesday, and said he was committed to ensuring a smooth transition of power.
Trump's inauguration is currently scheduled for Jan. 20, 2025.
