Trump says he is not tied to a specific timeline in finalizing Iran deal

The U.S., Israel and Iran reached a two-week ceasefire earlier this month, which has since been extended. Trump did not indicate how long the ceasefire will be in effect, but said reporting that it would last 3-5 days is "false."

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he does not feel tied to a specific timeframe to get a peace deal with Iran finished and that the blockade on the Strait of Hormuz "scares" Iran more than the bombing.

The United States and Israel began a military operation against Iran in February, which eliminated some of Iran's top leaders. Iran has since retaliated with strikes on U.S. military bases in the Middle East and on Israel.

The U.S., Israel and Iran reached a two-week ceasefire earlier this month, which has since been extended. Trump did not indicate how long the ceasefire will be in effect, but said reporting that it would last 3-5 days is "false."

“People say I want to get it over because of the midterms, not true,” Trump told Fox News' Martha McCallum. “[We want to] get a good deal for the American people ... The blockade scares [Iran] even more than the bombing. They’ve been bombed for years but the blockade they hate.”

Trump added that the reason for the extension is that Iran's leadership is fractured.

Iran has also claimed that it wants to continue peace talks with the U.S. and Israel in Pakistan, but that the U.S.' “breach of commitments, blockade and threats are (the) main obstacles to genuine negotiations,” Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said according to CNN.
