Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for President-elect Donald Trump, on Monday called President Biden's decision to ban new leases for oil drilling along most of the U.S. coastline "disgraceful" and signaled that Trump will change course.

The decision, which was expected, covers essentially the entire the entire West and East coast and the eastern part of the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska's Northern Bering Sea.

"This is a disgraceful decision designed to exact political revenge on the American people who gave President Trump a mandate to increase drilling and lower gas prices," Leavitt said in a statement. "Rest assured, Joe Biden will fail, and we will drill, baby, drill."

Biden's ban will cover about 625 million acres of ocean.
