Biden employs 152 more White House staffers than Trump in final year, annual budget $60.8M: watchdog

Report also found Biden White House payroll reaches historic highs not seen since President Richard Nixon in 1971

President Joe Biden employs 152 more White House staffers than former President Trump did in his last year in office and his total White House staff right now, 565 employees, will cost taxpayers in fiscal 2024 nearly $61 million, according to a new analysis and report by OpenTheBooks.com.

In addition, Biden employs 97 more staffers than fellow Democrat President Obama did at the "same point in their respective presidencies," reports the nonprofit, whose stated mission is to disclose spending at every level of government in the United States.

The group, founded by Adam Andrzejewski, an Illinois entrepreneur and former Republican candidate for governor, also found the turnover rate in the Biden White House so far is 77%.

"A stunning 435 out of his initial 560 White House staffers left," reads the report, released Wednesday. "No White House since the Richard Nixon administration ever employed 500 staffers until Biden became president."

The report also found the White House payroll has reached historic highs not seen since President Richard Nixon in 1971.

Biden employed 560 White House staffers in fiscal 2021, 474 in fiscal 2022 and 524 in fiscal 2023.

In total, Biden has spent about $225 million on White House payroll since he took office in January 2021, according to the analysis.

Open the Books also reported that on average Biden White House staffers with traditionally male names earned more than those with traditionally female names.

The group reports 343 of the 565 White House staffers are women and have an average salary of $101,511, while the 222 male staffers have an average salary of $115,719.

The White House did not respond Friday to a request for comment on the report.

In Biden’s first three years in office, over 40,000 employees were added to the federal payroll across 123 agencies, not including the Defense Department, U.S. Post Office and intelligence services, Open the Books also found.

All of the data that Open the Books used for its analysis is current as of July 1.

Andrzejewski said the $60.8 million White House payroll is the most expensive since OpenTheBooks.com began tracking the number in 2009.

He also said the payroll was made public just hours before the statutory deadline to do so and days after the June 28 presidential debate that "set off a torrent of questions about President Biden’s ability to serve."

"Perhaps, unsurprisingly, the support system around him has grown historically large and costly," Andrzejewski said.
