White House orders TikTok app banned from most government devices within 30 days
The only exceptions will be given to those performing law enforcement and national security activities and research, the agency said Monday.
The White House Management and Budget Office has issued a memorandum for executive branch agency leaders to within the next 30 days prevent the TikTok app from being installed on most government devices and to remove those already installed.
The only exceptions will be given to those performing law enforcement and national security activities and research, the agency said Monday.
The move follows legislation passed by Congress to ban TikTok from government-owned devices over national security concerns.
The White House's ban applies to any entity owned by the China-based company ByteDance Ltd., which employs members of the Chinese Communist Party and has a subsidiary partially owned by Beijing.
