White House delays expected release of proposal to lower health care costs
It was not clear what stance the president was expected to take regarding the expiration of subsidies, but a bipartisan group of House lawmakers proposed extending ACA subsidies for two years and placing an income cap for high earners.
The White House on Monday reportedly delayed the expected unveiling of President Donald Trump's new healthcare costs proposal.
The plan is to help limit the increase in healthcare prices caused by the expiration of Affordable Care Act subsidies.
Trump was previously expected to unveil the proposal on Monday, according to MS Now, but no announcement was formally placed on the president's schedule.
No reason for the postponement has been disclosed so far and no new timeline for the proposal has been made public.
It was also not clear what stance the president was expected to take regarding the expiration of subsidies, but a bipartisan group of House lawmakers proposed extending ACA subsidies for two years and placing an income cap for high earners.
“Until President Trump makes an announcement himself, any reporting about the administration’s health care positions is mere speculation,” Kush Desai, a White House spokesperson, told the New York Times.
Democrats used extending Obamacare subsidies as the heart of their 43-day government shutdown fight, and Senate Republicans have promised to hold a vote on the subsidies next month.
The subsidies, which impact millions of Americans, are expected to expire at the end of the year.
