White House says 'extreme MAGA Republican House Freedom Caucus' proposed 'devastating' budget cuts
The White House said the conservatives' proposal is a "five-alarm fire for families."
The White House on Monday said the "extreme MAGA Republican House Freedom Caucus" is calling for "devastating cuts" in budget recommendation made in response to President Biden's $6.8 trillion fiscal 2024 budget proposal.
"The extreme MAGA Republican House Freedom Caucus has made their priorities clear: imposing devastating cuts to public safety and increasing costs for working- and middle-class families, all to protect and extend tax breaks skewed to the wealthy and big corporations," the according to the White House.
"Combined with other commitments extreme MAGA House Republicans have already made, the extreme Freedom Caucus proposal will be a disaster for families."
The White House said the conservatives' proposal is a "five-alarm fire for families" that will endanger public safety, raise costs for Americans, move manufacturing jobs overseas and weaken national security, among other things.
Freedom Caucus member Rep. Scott Perry (R-Penn.) said the criticism is "like a pyromaniac suddenly taking interest in fire prevention."
The Freedom Caucus budget proposal released earlier this month calls such moves as decreased funding for the IRS, ending President Biden's student loan forgiveness program and putting in place more work requirements for welfare programs, according to Axios.
