The chemical tank in Garden Grove, California, has stabilized, and "The threat of [an explosion] is now off the table," said TJ McGovern, interim fire chief with the Orange County Fire Authority, in a video address. "That threat has been eliminated."

Evacuation orders were first issued last Thursday, calling for some 40,000 residents of several Orange County, California, cities to leave the area, based on a warning that a leaking toxic chemical tank at a nearby aerospace facility would inevitably fail and could potentially explode.  

McGovern said on Sunday that a crack was found in the tank holding 7,000 gallons of methyl methacrylate, a toxic and flammable liquid used in the manufacturing industry, according to USA Today. Overnight testing has determined that temperatures and pressure levels have stabilized, officials said.
