Former Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein began complaining Wednesday of chest pains while jurors began deliberations in the retrial of his rape conviction, which prompted the judge to end the day early.

Weinstein has been imprisoned at New York's Rikers Island since 2020 and has faced a myriad of health issues in recent years, including a cancer diagnosis and a history of heart issues. It was not clear what caused the chest pains Wednesday.

The current retrial centers on allegations that Weinstein raped accuser Jessica Mann in 2013. He was initially convicted of the crime in 2020, but the conviction was overturned in 2024 and the case was sent back for retrial.

The ex-producer was not in the courtroom when he began experiencing the chest pains at approximately 3 p.m. Eastern, but was waiting elsewhere in the courthouse. The development prompted Judge Curtis Farber to dismiss jurors for the day, stating there were “unforeseen reasons” for sending them home earlier than planned, according to the Associated Press.

The jurors were approximately four hours into their deliberations when the disruption occurred, the outlet reported, and are expected to resume their deliberations on Thursday.

The jurors are also seeking to rehear part of Mann’s testimony and review a lengthy prosecution timeline of emails and other evidence.
