The Department of Justice is contemplating another avenue by which those claiming to have been politically targeted by the Biden administration can receive compensation after the Trump administration backed off its "anti-weaponization fund."

The DOJ originally announced the $1.776 billion fund as part of a settlement to end President Donald Trump's lawsuit against the IRS over the leak of his tax returns by contractor Charles Littlejohn, who pleaded guilty. The fund was intended to provide restitution to alleged victims of political weaponization from the Biden DOJ, but faced pushback from Republicans over concerns it would be used to reward Trump allies.

In recent days, the DOJ, according to the Wall Street Journal, has said they have the authority and the funding to settle lawsuits against the federal government.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., proposed in a post on X on Tuesday that a fund be created to settle lawsuits from those who prove that they were victimized by the Biden Department of Justice. Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward replied in a now-deleted comment that the DOJ is "on it," according to the Journal.

A number of people who claim to have been targeted by the Biden administration are crafting lawsuits against the federal government, seeking compensation for their claims. Graham explained in his post that the Federal Tort Claims Act, an 80-year-old law that allows claims for damages against the government, provides a legal avenue for redress for these alleged victims.

"We have a legal system already in place for people to make claims against the government. That does not need to be reinvented," he said.
