Approximately 75 vehicles were involved in a pileup on Interestate 70 in Colorado.

The crash occurred about 50 miles west of Denver, according to ABC News, on a section of highway that twists through the Rocky Mountains. The crash involved semi-trucks and passenger cars.

First responders evaluated 19 people for injuries, and eight of the injured were taken to the hospital. One person sustained serious bodily injuries, according to state patrol.

The crash forced a two-lane shutdown on the busy Interstate, on the east side of the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel. While the exact cause of the crash remains unclear, photos authorities have released show snow and ice covering the section of the interstate.
