The Trump-established Board of Peace responsible for coordinating an end to the war in Gaza is seeking more than $2 billion in international aid to help with rebuilding efforts.

Earlier this week, the UN Security Council unanimously approved the board's 20-point Gaza peace plan. Now, the board wants $2.45 billion in funding to implement it, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff told delegates at the UN.

“Only through hard work, diligence and patience will we come together and resolve this," Witkoff said, according to Politico.

Fighting in Gaza began in 2023, following a Hamas raid on Israel that kicked off fighting. The conflict drew in Hezbollah in Lebanon and has since been subsumed by the broader Iran war.

But the basic premise of a peace agreement remains in place as of press time and officials are cautiously optimistic that they can implement the agreement.
