Democrat unseats Republican incumbent in Pennsylvania’s 7th district

A Democrat challenger has unseated a Republican incumbent in Pennsylvania in district that he narrowly won in 2024.

Democrat Bob Brooks has won Pennsylvania’s 7th district, ousting incumbent Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, who took over the seat from a Democrat in 2024.

Mackenzie was seeking a second term Tuesday night, but his hopes were dashed when the Associated Press called the race for Brooks at 10:27 p.m. ET. In 2024, President Donald Trump won the district by a slim margin of just three percentage points, while Mackenzie defeated then-incumbent Democrat Susan Wild by just one percentage point. The call was made with 80% of the vote counted.

The two candidates did not participate in a debate prior to the election after Brooks withdrew from local network WFMZ’s proposed debate. Brooks claimed he pulled out of the debate due to attacks from Mackenzie.

This is a developing story.
