Trump nominates Kari Lake for Jamaica ambassador, Cameron Hamilton for FEMA director
The move to nominate Hamilton comes after he fired the man as acting administrator last year. He was fired after clashing with former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and claiming he did not believe FEMA should be eliminated as Trump vowed.
President Donald Trump sent another wave of nominations to the Senate Monday that includes nominating Kari Lake as U.S. Ambassador to Jamaica and Cameron Hamilton as the administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The move to nominate Hamilton comes after he was fired last year as acting administrator. He was fired after clashing with former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and claiming that he did not believe FEMA should be eliminated, as Trump vowed.
Lake previously served as the acting CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, which oversees Voice of America. The VOA became a staple during World War II by becoming a major channel through which the United States communicated with people living under censorship or limited press freedom.
The president did not comment on the new nominations, but he also nominated Pennsylvania's Doug Mastriano for ambassador to the Slovak Republic, and David Cummins to lead the Transportation Security Administration in a five-year term.
