President Donald Trump stopped in the middle of his speech Friday to leave the stage and comfort a set of grieving parents, who lost their 12-year-old son last month to a stray bullet in New York City.

The president was delivering a law and order speech at the Nassau County Police Academy when he mentioned Jacob Freytes, a boy who was killed by a stray bullet while sitting on his bike outside a bodega in the Bronx. 

After mentioning Freytes, Trump left the stage in an unscripted moment to meet his parents, who were teary-eyed in the audience. 

"Two weeks ago, a 12-year-old boy named Jacob Freytes — You read about this one? — was tragically shot and killed by a stray bullet fired by a repeat offender in a gun battle," Trump said. "Jacob was the son of a loving mom and a retired New York City police detective, and they are incredible people, and I think I heard that they may be with us today."

After the president embraced the couple, Migdalia Martinez and Jesus Freytes, Trump vowed to get justice for their son.

"Incredible. Horrible story. What a horrible thing," Trump said. "But we're going after them. These are bad, sick people."

Freytes' death has spurred Republicans in the New York state legislature to introduce "Jacob's Law," which would impose stricter sentences on criminals whose reckless actions result in the death of a child, according to Fox News.

The New York Police Department said it has arrested 45-year-old William Ferrer, who faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder. He has pleaded not guilty. 

Ferrer has a criminal record dating back at least 25-years, and prior charges include drunk driving, drug possession, menacing and criminal contempt, according to the New York Post.
