President Donald Trump thanked the news media on Friday for their "fair coverage" of Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to Washington, D.C., stating that he appreciated it amid a tense relationship with several outlets.

Trump banned the left-leaning outlets of MS NOW, CNN and Politico last week for their reportedly biased coverage of his administration, but a federal court overturned the ban on Thursday, after the outlets sued the White House.

The president praised the Chinese visit in remarks to reporters, stating it was a "tremendous visit," in the first live widely televised coverage of the event since the ruling.

"We've had a tremendous visit from two spectacular people," Trump said. "We've really enjoyed it, and I think we've made tremendous strides ... Very positive for both countries. So, thank you very much and we appreciate the fair coverage. It's been very fair. We appreciate it."

Xi spent three days in Washington, D.C., this week, which included a formal state dinner at the White House on Thursday night and a visit to the National Archives and tea with the president and first lady on Friday.

Both heads of state have remained vague on the substance of their discussions, though Trump indicated he had discussed his plan to rebrand AI from "artificial intelligence" to "super intelligence." 

Xi also announced that China would send two giant pandas to the Atlanta zoo in an extension of Beijing's "panda diplomacy."
