Former Maine state lawmaker and logger Troy Jackson won the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate on Saturday, setting up a November showdown with longtime Republican Sen. Susan Collins in a race that could play a key role in determining control of the Senate.

Jackson was selected after Democrat Graham Platner, who won the party’s June primary, withdrew from the race earlier this month following a sexual assault allegation that he has denied. Maine Democrats gathered Saturday to choose a new nominee to take on Collins in the general election.
