Ohio Republican Sen. Jon Husted, who is seeking reelection this November, urged Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, on Thursday to resign his post over abuse allegations, stating the fellow Ohioan was "not fit to serve in Congress."

Miller asked the House Ethics Committee this week to open an investigation into domestic abuse allegations from his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, and has vowed to cooperate with the investigation.

Husted, who ran unopposed in the state Republican primary, urged the House Ethics Committee to seriously evaluate the abuse allegations and encouraged Miller to resign for the sake of his young daughter.

"I know both Max Miller and Emily Moreno, as well as their families," Husted said on X. "I am deeply saddened that their personal lives have become such a public matter, especially as it relates to their daughter, Ruthie. One thing they both seem to agree on is that Ruthie’s best interests should come first.

"Given everything they are facing, I do not see how a campaign for Congress benefits any of them," he continued. "I believe Max would be making the right decision to step aside as a candidate and resign from Congress to focus on what is in the best interest of his daughter. Years from now, I believe he will look back and know it was the right choice for her."

Miller was married to Emily Moreno, the daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, who has said his former son-in-law should not serve in Congress. Emily Moreno has sought a restraining order against Miller, who has denied wrongdoing.

She has alleged that Miller physically abused her, including by placing a gun to her head and pouring hot water on her.
