The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Monday announced that it would repeal a rule limiting greenhouse gas emissions from coal and natural gas power plants, the Associated Press reported.

The move comes amid the Trump administration's efforts to dramatically expand American energy production and marks a considerable reversal from the climate-friendly policies of the Biden administration.

Energy demand has surged amid both conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe and as the buildout of data centers prompts concerns over rising usage and possible price hikes.

The EPA estimates that the repeal of the rule would eliminate roughly $300 billion in energy costs.
