The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Friday vowed to bring justice to persons attacking law enforcement after Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrested a thrice-deported illegal alien who allegedly attacked an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer with a vehicle.

“This criminal illegal alien represents the worst of the worst that the hardworking men and women of ICE are targeting and removing from our communities every single day,” DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement. “This Department will not tolerate violent assaults on our brave law enforcement officers who keep us safe. DHS will hunt down and bring to justice anyone who engages in this dangerous behavior.”

Jesus Israel Garcia-Cobarruvias of Mexico was arrested on Aug. 31 in Martinez, Calif., during an incident in which he allegedly drove his vehicle toward ICE agents, injuring one and damaging a government vehicle. The officer is not able to walk on his own, without assistance, due to the injuries.

Under the Trump administration, DHS has worked to enact the mass deportation of illegal aliens, with an emphasis on the "worst of the worst" criminals.
