Trump endorses Steve Hilton in California governor's race

President Donald Trump on Monday endorsed Republican Steve Hilton to become the next governor of California.
"I have known and respected Steve Hilton, who is running for Governor of California, for many years," Trump posted on Truth Social. "He is a truly fine man, one who has watched as this once great State has gone to Hell."
"Gavin Newscum and the Democrats have done an absolutely horrendous job. People are fleeing, crime is increasing, and Taxes are the highest of any State in the Country, maybe the World," he added. "Steve can turn it around, before it is too late, and, as President, I will help him to do so! With Federal help, and a Great Governor, like Steve Hilton, California can be better than ever before! Steve Hilton has my COMPLETE & TOTAL ENDORSEMENT."
Hilton is one of a multitude of candidates running in California's jungle primary. The state has an unusual system wherein the top-two voter fetters reach the general election, regardless of party affiliation.
Sheriff Chad Bianco is also running as a Republican, and it is theoretically possible for the general election to feature two Republicans should the litany of Democratic candidates sufficiently split the vote.
The Democratic bench includes Reps. Eric Swalwell and Katie Porter, as well as many others.
