President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned that Canada was "destroying itself" through mass immigration and that the nation's longstanding left-wing government would "end badly."

"Canada is destroying itself by allowing millions and millions of people into the Country, essentially unchecked and unvetted, and who are causing problems that will soon be too big to handle," he posted on Truth Social. "It is a Liberal takeover that will end very badly. Already showing up in their numbers. Big unemployment. 'Oh Canada![']"

Trump's remarks come amid an ongoing trade row with Canada. Though negotiators nearly reached an agreement earlier this year, talks fell apart at the last minute, leading to a war of words between the Canadian and American governments.

Trump, for his part, subsequently renamed Lake Ontario to "Lake America."
