At least eight people were stabbed at a shopping mall in the South Korean city of Incheon, officials said Tuesday.

Incheon authorities detained a 59-year-old suspect following the incident, in which police say the man stabbed shoppers until bystanders subdued him, the New York Post reported.

One witness told South Korea’s Yonhap news agency that the suspect appeared to have knives strapped to both hands. The witness said he began stabbing people at a store on the basement level before moving up the escalator and continuing to attack people.

Victims injured in the attack were taken to hospitals, Incheon's fire department said. One woman in her 20s underwent surgery after going into cardiac arrest after she arrived at the hospital.
