Stephen Cloobeck, a former California candidate for governor and Democratic donor, was arrested on Tuesday in the Los Angeles area on felony charges.

Cloobeck was booked into custody in West Hollywood, according to Politico. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department records suggest the possible charges involve attempting to impede victim or witness testimony.

He was released on $300,000 bail.

Cloobeck, a billionaire who made his wealth in the timeshare industry, had run for governor of California in a crowded 2026 primary. He dropped out of the race to support former Rep. Eric Swalwell, but cut ties to the candidate when Swalwell was accused of sexual assault. Cloobeck subsequently left the Democratic Party.
