Texas teen allegedly charged in plot to shoot Texas Rep Self, carry out ISIS-related terror attack
Rep. Keith Self, R-Texas, has been behind legislation aimed at Islamic extremism, including a non-binding resolution that denounces Sharia law and opposes its implementation within the United States.
The FBI has reportedly charged a 17-year-old from Texas in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate Republican Rep. Keith Self and carry out a terror attack on behalf of ISIS.
The alleged plot was reported Wednesday by local news outlet WFAA, based on information from federal law enforcement sources.
Self appeared the same day to confirm the matter in an X post, saying, "I am grateful to the FBI and law enforcement for stopping this threat. My family and I are safe, and I remain focused on serving the people of Texas’ 3rd District."
However, he also said law enforcement told him the McKinney, Texas, teenager had planned to "perhaps try to shoot at me," and carry out a terrorist attack. He said it was unclear exactly what that meant.
The FBI arrested the teen Oct. 5 after he acquired a firearm, WFAA also reports.
As of Thursday morning, there appeared to be no official report on the matter. When Just The News asked for confirmation on the case, the FBI declined to comment.
Self has been behind legislation aimed at Islamic extremism, including a non-binding resolution that denounces Sharia law and opposes its implementation within the United States. The congressman also sponsored legislation against Islamic extremism and Sharia law.
