Left-wing political talk show host Bill Maher revealed Monday that President Donald Trump has invited him back to the White House for a second dinner, which is set to take place next week.

Maher, who is known for calling out his own fellow Democratic Party members, said on his "Club Random" podcast that he has accepted the invitation and will be meeting the president, whom he has praised as having "good humor."

The talk-show host told Hollywood agent and producer Ari Emanuel, who represented Trump when he was on The Apprentice, that the second invitation came out of the blue but that he could not decline a meeting with the president.

"I'm having dinner with him next week. After the first dinner, I went back to doing what I do," he said on the podcast. "Then he just, out of the blue, 'Let's have dinner again.' And I was like, great. And he was really nice. Like, 'I promise I won't say bad things about you like I did the last time.'

"I texted back, and I said, 'You know what, you're the President of the United States. Say whatever the f--- you want. I'm just glad we're talking,'" he added. "It's like being called a 'hockey puck' by Don Rickles. It's just what he does."

Maher said it "blows my mind" that people would decline an invitation to dine with the president, regardless of political party, and slammed comedian Larry David for criticizing his first dinner with Trump.

"It's so interesting to me that Larry David, like, I'm the devil because I talk to him, but his own agent just talked to him on Monday," Maher said. "You must recognize the hypocrisy there. Somehow, when it's his own agent doing the exact same thing, this is, then we don't play the Hitler card."

The invitation comes after Maher had dinner with the president last year and claimed he felt comfortable speaking to Trump and did not feel like he had to walk on eggshells.

"Honestly, I voted for Clinton and Obama, but I would never feel comfortable talking to them the way I was able to talk with Donald Trump," he said.
