Normally, the U. S. Treasurer is best known for having his signature on dollar bills.

But President Donald Trump’s choice for the job, Brandon Beach, has shaken things up, adding the president's signature to currency, striking a new dollar coin with Trump’s mug, ending the manufacture of pennies and selling the last penny ever made for a whopping $16.7 million.

Beach told Just the News his favorite part was the conversation with the president after the auction was held for the last penny.

“I will tell you, I've done a lot of cool things, but this was historic to strike the last penny ever,” he said in an interview. “…We thought we would get $5 million for it. We sold it for $16.7 million.

“The president called me, and he said 'that tells me the Trump policies are working.' He said if somebody can spend $16.7 million for a penny, we're going to have a golden age economy. We're going to win big,” he added.

Beach and Bureau of Engraving and Printing Director Michael Brown have been busy since retiring the penny, rolling out a new $100 bill with Trump’s signature on it and a new $1 coin with the president's face on it.

“We've got the $100 bills in circulation with the president's signature on it, and we're working on fives and ones right now,” Brown told Just the News. “We're excited to get those later on this year.”

The Trump $1 coin, Beach said, got a resounding reaction when it was put out on the U.S. Mint's Web site.

“We sold out of them in four hours,” he said. “We're going to produce more. They will then be legal tender. They'll be in the banks hopefully in the next month, and you'll be able to go to the bank and get a roll, just like a roll of quarters, get a roll of Trump dollar coins, and go spend them. It is legal tender, just like $1 bill.”
