Former Vice President Kamala Harris has endorsed incumbent Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass in the city's mayoral race.

Bass "has done what so many said couldn't be done – the first ever two-year decline in homelessness, reducing crime levels this city hasn't seen since the 1960s, and refusing to back down when the federal government came after our neighbors," Harris said in a statement released Monday.

Harris and Bass, Democrats have known each other for more than 20 years, and were rumored to be rivals to be former President Joe Biden's running mate in the 2020 presidential election, the New York Post reported

Harris is a former California attorney general, and Bass is a former California congresswoman.

Bass is facing four major challengers in the race but remains the front-runner, leading by double-digits or close to in most if not all major polls. The election is in November, but a candidate who gets over percent of the vote in the June primary could win the race before the fall General Election.
