Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh is expected to lead his first interest rate meeting Wednesday, which will be followed by a press conference from which borrowers and investors will be able to assess his plans to keep the U.S. economy on track.

President Donald Trump nominated Warsh, a former Federal Reserve governor, as chairman in January, but he was not able to assume the post until former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's term ended last month.

Warsh has vowed to keep the Fed "strictly independent" in overseeing monetary policy, despite Trump's push for the Fed to lower interest rates, which is the central bank's main tool for spurring economic growth.

Investors expect the Federal Reserve to keep the interest rate steady on Wednesday, according to CBS News, but the official decision will be made at 2 p.m. Eastern, followed by a press conference at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.

Investors have also said the press conference will be a good time for the public to see Warsh's leadership, especially given Trump's heavy criticism of Powell.
