Pflugerville, Texas, a northern suburb of Austin, ended its agreement with Flock Safety, after the city council voted unanimously to do away with the controversial technology. 

City workers turned off all 28 cameras that automatically read license plates across the town, Chron reported. 

The company was negotiating its contract renewal in July, but those negotiations were terminated when it was discovered the company allowed non-partner law enforcement agencies to access Flock data within Pflugerville. 

"Public safety and public trust have to go hand in hand, and recent revelations about the Flock system have fueled concerns throughout the community; we can’t engage with organizations we can’t trust," Pflugerville Mayor Doug Weiss said in a statement on Tuesday.
