President Donald Trump on Monday suggested that U.S. forces could effectively wipe out Iran in a single evening and that it may pursue such an aggressive campaign this week.

"The entire country could be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night," Trump said during a press conference on the recovery of two American service members from Iran. The pair ejected from a downed F-15 and were recovered over the weekend.

Trump's "tomorrow night" comment appeared to refer to his Tuesday evening deadline for the Iranians to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face American strikes on their bridges and energy infrastructure.

He has repeatedly declared victory in the conflict, though the U.S. and Tehran have yet to reach an agreement to end the fighting and the Iranians have not conceded to core U.S. demands.
