After alleged rape by Weinstein, Jennifer Newsom emailed asking for advice on Gavin's sex scandal
Weinstein will use email as part of legal defense.
Two years after allegedly being raped by now-disgraced rapist and former media mogul Harvey Weinstein, Jennifer Newsom emailed the movie tycoon seeking advice on how to manage a sex scandal involving her then-boyfriend Gavin Newsom.
The revelation comes as part of court proceedings regarding Weinstein's ongoing rape trial in Los Angeles, where he faces multiple counts of sexual assault, including one for an assault that allegedly occurred nearly two decades ago against Jennifer Newsom.
Weinstein allegedly raped Newsom, then Jennifer Siebel, in 2004 or 2005. The latter would go on to begin dating Gavin Newsom in 2006, subsequently marrying him in 2008.
Gavin Newsom in 2007 while serving as the mayor of San Francisco was found to have had an affair with a married subordinate several years prior, leading to Jennifer Newsom to email Weinstein asking for insight in how to manage such a scandal.
Weinstein's defense will allegedly use the email as evidence that the encounter between their client and Jennifer was not sexual assault.
"The defense will be that they had an affair, that they had consensual sex,” Weinstein's attorney Mark Werksman told the court.
