Accused Waukesha murdered Darrell Brooks says he feels he's been 'dehumanized,' 'demonized'
The accused killer has a 50-page rap sheet and is allegedly responsible for the deaths of 6 people
The man accused of driving his SUV through a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, killing six people – including and eight-year-old – and injuring 62 others, said Wednesday that he feels he's being "demonized."
In his first jail house interview, Darrell Brooks Jr. told Fox News that he feels "dehumanized."
"I just feel like I’m being monster – demonized," Brooks said according to the outlet.
Evidently, the accused killer offered no details about what motivated him to drive a large vehicle through a crowd of parade-goers. He had been charged with six counts of intentional first-degree homicide and is being held on $5 million cash bail. If convicted on all counts, he could face life in prison.
Earlier in the week, Brooks' mother released a letter pinning the blame for her son's criminal acts squarely on a system that she said had failed him. "Mental illness is real and the system is broken it can and must be fixed NOW, not next year or with a new legislation NOW. So many like Darrell that have fallen through the cracks because of a broken system that no one cared to address, can get the help they so desperately need," wrote the accused murderer's mother, Dawn Woods, in a letter.
At the time of the tragedy, Brooks was out of jail on $1,000 bail in a Milwaukee County case in which he is accused of intentionally driving into a woman with his car, for which he was charged on November 5. He is the defendant in another Milwaukee County case in which he is accused of shooting a gun at his nephew and another individual.
Brooks has an extensive criminal history, a rap sheet that is 50-pages long, is a registered child sex offender in Nevada, and, according to court records, has beaten many of his past romantic partners.
