Border patrol seizes nearly 4,000 pounds of cocaine
Border patrol seized the cocaine, valued at $33 million, off the southern coast of Puerto Rico
U.S. Customs and Border Air and Marine Operations say agents on Wednesday interdicted a vessel attempting to smuggle cocaine into the U.S.
The agents intercepted 3,687 pounds of cocaine and handed over the vessel and cocaine to the FBI for investigation.
CBP agents encountered the vessel in the early morning hours on Wednesday, according to a CBP press release.
"The agents energized the blue lights and siren to which the vessel was intentionally beached on the shoreline by its occupants," the press release reads. "The individuals immediately absconded to a nearby brushy area."
The agents found 60 bales of cocaine valued at $33 million.
