Escaped Washington, D.C., murder suspect captured after being on the run for 7 weeks
The suspect escaped from the George Washington University Hospital after being take there by police for an injury
A murder suspect who escaped custody of police at the George Washington University Hospital was captured Thursday after being on the run for about seven weeks, according to Washington, D.C., law enforcement.
Metropolitan Police Department Commander Leslie Parsons said the suspect, Christopher Haynes, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Haynes, 30, is a Virginia resident who had to go to the hospital after getting injured while being processed at a D.C. police station Sept. 6 in connection with an Aug. 12 killing, according to a local news outlet.
While his handcuffs were being switched at the hospital, Haynes assaulted one of the officers and took off, according to police reports.
His escape caused a shelter-in-place order in the area.
