A young girl died after being struck by a truck towing a float in a Christmas parade in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the 20-year-old driver faces multiple charges in relation to the accident.

Suspect Landen Christopher Glass faces charges of misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, reckless and careless driving, unsafe movement, improper equipment and having a firearm in a parade, according to the local ABC affiliate

The driver yelled out of the truck's window that he lost control and was unable to stop during the parade Saturday, witnesses said.

The girl, who has only been identified as a parade dancer with CC & Co. Dance Complex, was hit at a low speed, police said. First responders rushed the child to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save her life. No one else in the parade was injured.

Raleigh Mayor Mary-Ann Baldwin tweeted: "Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of the young girl who lost her life today at the Raleigh Christmas Parade. Our prayers are with her family, friends and the dancers from CC & Co."

CC & Co. said: "We are still in shock as we write these words to you. ... Please refrain from judgment regarding what happened until we know more and the authorities have finished their investigation."
