Father of suspected Chicago shooter says son discussed a mass shooting the night before massacre

The father of the young man accused of perpetrating the mass shooting outside of Chicago on July 4 claimed that his son openly discussed a mass shooting with him the night before the fatal massacre. 

Robert Crimo, Jr., told the New York Post that his son Robert Crimo III on July 3 referenced the recent mass shooting event in Copenhagen, in which a Danish man shot and killed three people at a mall in the European capital city. 

“He goes, ‘Yeah, that guy is an idiot.’ That’s what he said!” Crimo, Jr., told the Post, claiming that his son added that "people like that … [commit mass shootings] to amp up the people that want to ban all guns.”

The cryptic conversation serves as yet another ex post facto warning flag revealed in the wake of the Chicago shooting that has thus far claimed eight lives. 

Crimo III reportedly had knives and other weapons confiscated by police several years ago after he claimed his intent to kill his whole family. He also allegedly told cops directly that he was mentally unwell at the time. 

Media outlets, meanwhile, discovered this week an unsettling gun mural at the house of Crimo's mother, one reportedly pained by Crimo III himself.
