Authorities have identified the assailant in a Monday morning shooting as a 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon, who worked at the Old National Bank where the incident took place.

At least four people were fatally shot and nine others have been injured. The suspect died in an exchange of gunfire with police. Initial reports indicated that Sturgeon was 23, but later authorities confirmed a 1998 date of birth indicating he was 25.

Nine victims received treatment at Louisville hospital, three of whom are in critical condition and among them one officer. Three more are in non-critical condition and three have been released, authorities confirmed in a press conference.

Officer Nicholas Wilt, 26, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and remains in critical condition. He graduated from the academy on March 31. Another officer was struck in an exchange of gunfire.

Among the dead are Tommy Elliott, 63; Jim Tutt, 64; Josh Barrick, 40; Juliana Farmer, 57.

The incident began at about 8:30 a.m., roughly the time authorities said they started receiving calls about shots being fired.

The department tweeted after 10 a.m. that the suspected lone shooter was deceased, placing the total number of deaths at five.

Two of the nine people injured are police officers, officials said, according to The Associated Press. University of Louisville Hospital spokeswoman Heather Fountaine said at least three of the patients had been discharged, but one of the officers remains in critical condition.

Kentucky Democrat Gov. Andy Beshear said he lost two friends in the shooting Monday.

"This is awful," he said. "I have a very close friend who didn’t make it today. And I have another close friend who didn’t, either. And one who’s at the hospital that I hope is going to make it through."
